PETITION TO RESTORE CHESTERFIELD CANAL
Canal Trust members and borough councillors Ed Fordham, Paul Niblock and Shirley Niblock

We call on Chesterfield Borough Council to note that the planning application from the Chesterfield Canal Trust (which will be the last primary application for the restoration of the Canal within Chesterfield Borough Council boundaries) has been submitted and we resolve to support the Trust in its long-standing work to reconnect Chesterfield with its canal story, which ended with the collapse of the Norwood Tunnel in 1907.

We recognise that the restored Canal will be a major boost for the identity of the town, bring significant tourism benefits, support a positive approach for cyclists and pedestrians and restore a beautiful link and water highway with Staveley, Worksop, Retford and through to West Stockwith, the River Trent and the entire UK canal network.

Further, this petition supports the campaign to fund and build the Rother Link which would connect Chesterfield's canal network with the immediate South Yorkshire waterways bringing additional visitors and water traffic.
