Knottingley & Ferrybridge Lib Dem FOCUS Team: Hill Top Safer Streets Petition

In recent years our towns have seen a significant increase in the number of vehicles on our streets. This is likely to further increase given Wakefield Councils plans to allow over 2000 to be built in our area, without any significant improvements to the local infrastructure.

Hill Top is one of the busiest junctions in Knottingley and poses a danger to pedestrians. There is only a single pedestrian crossing with a button across the Pontefract Road part of the junction. The result is that there is no safe way to cross between Hill Top shops and the train station, two focal points of our town.

Furthermore, the high number of HGVs using this junction can make it even more difficult for pedestrians to gain a clear view and whether is safe to cross. There have been a number of accidents and near misses at this junction before and we believe Wakefield Council should act proactively before anyone is seriously injured or worse.

As such we, the undersigned, would like to see the following:

1. Installation of safe pedestrian crossings at the Hill Top junction

2. Monitoring of traffic and HGVs at the Hill Top junction

3. Extending the double yellow lines further along Headlands Lane to stop HGVs parking and blocking the exit from the Hill Top Shops

Thank you for your interest but we are no longer running this campaign.
