North Devon District Council Car Park Adjacent to Fremington Medical Centre
Until 2016, parking for the first hour was free, then NDDC decided to remove that concession.
This means paying to collect prescriptions, see nurse and book appointments. Now this is also causing problems for local residents - people are parking away from designated bays, blocking roads and driveways.
Additionally, there are only two designated bays for disabled visitors. Both too small, one has hatching on one side only, the other none. The bay at the bottom of the car park doesn't have a drop-kerb so the only way, in a wheelchair/scooter, is to go all the way back up the car park behind parked vehicles, to the only access outside the medical centre's main entrance and all the way back down in order to access business premises along the main road.
This petition asks NDDC to reinstate a free parking period of not less than 30 minutes; create at least 4 Blue Badge bays immediately adjacent to the Medical Centre main entrance, a drop kerb at the bottom end of the parking area and ensure all 5 bays are wide enough with hatching on both sides: install a second payment machine at the bottom end of the car park: consider suitable signage and road markings to protect access to properties and through the immediate neighbourhood.
Whether you've already signed up to the campaign or aren't ready just yet, you can still help encourage other people to sign up.
