Leicestershire's Conservative County Councillors have published their budget plans for 2017-18. Buried away inside, they include plans to introduce on-street parking charges across Leicestershire.
This means that many short-term on-street parking bays which are currently free, will soon see parking meters erected and charges brought in.
This will have a double whammy on both residents and local businesses.
Many businesses rely on customers being able to stop off outside their shops to buy their goods and services. New parking fees will deter customers and many local businesses have said they could close as a result.
Residents will be affected too. People who currently use the free parking will move further out from the towns, making already congested local roads even worse.
Lib Dem campaigners are strongly opposed to these new charges and will be opposing the measures at County Hall.
